Two pills, two different drugs
There are now two FDA-approved GLP-1 tablets for weight loss. The Wegovy pill is oral semaglutide from Novo Nordisk, launched in the US in January 2026. Foundayo is orforglipron from Eli Lilly, approved in April 2026. Orforglipron isn't a peptide like semaglutide, which is why it doesn't need the strict fasting routine.

Which one suits you
The Wegovy pill showed slightly more weight loss in its trial, but you have to take it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and wait half an hour before breakfast, coffee or other pills. That works for people with a steady morning routine.
Foundayo can be taken with or without food at any time, which makes it easier to fit around other medicines and irregular schedules. Its average weight loss in trials was a little lower.
Both are reasonable for people who don't want injections. If maximum weight loss matters most, injectable Zepbound or Wegovy produced larger average results in trials.
Side effects
Both pills cause the same kind of digestive side effects as injectable GLP-1s, mainly nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and constipation, especially while the dose is increasing. Read each medicine's label for its full warnings, and see our side effects guide.
GLP-1 pills cost without insurance
Through the manufacturers' self-pay programs, the Wegovy pill costs $149 a month at 1.5 mg, $199 at 4 mg and $299 at 9 mg or 25 mg. Foundayo starts at $149 for 0.8 mg; its 2.5 mg and 5.5 mg prices are temporarily reduced through December 31, 2026. Higher doses can cost $299 a month.
