Can you get a GLP-1 without a membership fee?
Yes. You still need a prescription and may pay for medical visits, but a monthly clinic subscription is not required. Your own clinician can prescribe an FDA-approved medicine, or you can use a service that charges per visit. The medicine is usually a separate expense.
For self-pay patients, manufacturer prices currently start at $149 a month for certain pill starting doses and $299 a month for Zepbound's 2.5 mg starting dose. Later doses and follow-up care can cost more. Compare the full price by dose before choosing a care route.
Three ways to avoid a monthly clinic subscription
| Care route | Visit charge | Medication | Check before booking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your own clinician | Depends on your clinician and coverage | Separate; ask about manufacturer self-pay programs | Will they prescribe and monitor the medicine you are considering? |
| Walgreens Weight Management | $49 per virtual visit; no subscription advertised | Separate | Eligibility, follow-up frequency and your pharmacy choice |
| CVS MinuteClinic | $29 advertised cash-pay weight-loss consultation; labs extra | Separate | Visit availability, follow-up cost and whether a prescription is appropriate |
These are published offers, not guarantees of a prescription or a final price. Confirm location, eligibility and current terms with each service.
When a monthly online clinic may be worth it
A membership may make sense if it includes follow-up visits, insurance paperwork or coaching you would otherwise pay for separately. Compare the total over the time you expect to use the service: visit fees or membership, medication at the likely dose, labs and any renewal commitment.
Our online GLP-1 provider comparison lists membership fees and commitments. If price is your main concern, the cost guide shows how much drug choice and dose can change the total.
What to ask before paying
- Is the medicine FDA-approved, and which exact product could be prescribed?
- How often are follow-up visits required, and what does each one cost?
- Can the prescription go to a manufacturer self-pay program or your chosen pharmacy?
- Are labs, shipping or cancellation charges separate?
A clinician decides whether treatment is appropriate. Be wary of services promising a prescription without a medical evaluation. Compounded GLP-1s have different regulatory and safety considerations.
